MEDIA RELEASE - 19 February
Assumption College is proud to have official works commence on the $5 million state-of-the-art Neale Daniher Community and Sporting Pavilion located in Kilmore. The pavilion is named in honour of our much-loved alumnus, Neale Daniher, AM, (Class of 1978).

This contemporary building features iconic architectural design with facilities including a Hall of Excellence, change and visitor rooms, grandstand, umpire spaces, multipurpose communal area, function centre seating 200 people, warm up spaces, equipment storage facilities as well as having plaques telling Daniher’s story. This pavilion will replace the one generously donated by the Anderson family in the 1970s.

Turning the first sod on the new pavilion site was Kate Fogarty, Assumption College Principal, and Neale Daniher, AO. The building is anticipated to be opened in early 2022.

“This is an important milestone in the journey of the Assumption College Sporting and Community Pavilion development”, said Ms Kate Fogarty, College Principal.

“We are extremely proud to have Neale Daniher, AM, here today to officially turn the soil and are also delighted to be able to name the Sporting and Community pavilion in honour of Neale Daniher. He is a great Victorian, role model and much-loved alumnus (Class of 1978).

“The pavilion will forever cement the Daniher name in concrete as a famous former AFL player, coach and prominent motor neurone disease campaigner. Neale is a sporting legend and known also for his spirit and generosity amidst adversity”.

“This is a premier facility in the greater Kilmore area, one that can be utilized by the community, local groups and service clubs. When complete in early 2022, our Old Collegians, friends and businesses will be able to meet together for functions, social occasions and reunions”.

“This space will be a testament to the commitment and community spirit of all those who have helped make Assumption what it is today. It is with thanks to the wonderful generosity of our community that construction of this new Community and Sports Pavilion is underway”.

The Neale Daniher Sporting and Community pavilion is situated in the heart of the Assumption College precinct. It will be a gathering place for all. It will serve as a premier sports facility and form a key space for significant community occasions.
